Wishing good luck to all in the 60th anniversary Cowes Torquay Cowes Powerboat Race this Sunday.

MRMC’s own Mark Robinson is at the helm of the event as Officer of the Day (OOD) for this historic event, and after many months of rigorous planning is looking forward to welcoming both original racers from the 1960 event and new competitors to the Solent this weekend.

Mark’s passion for this, one of the biggest and most gruelling classic long distance powerboat races in the world, has been extant for the past 40 years, watching extended family members play their part in racing over the years, Gordon Proctor and John Pearce as competitors and his father, Kit Robinson, presenting the Concours d’Elegance Lombard North Central Cup in years gone by.

In recent years Mark is always to be seen on the water watching the race start and now through his involvement with the British Powerboat Racing Club (BPRC) he is taking on a more formal role.

Watch his blog from a few years ago, when writing as The Master Mariner for myIsleofWight.com and Red Funnel Ferries. It certainly captures the intense action of the race!

MRMC wish all the teams for the Cowes Torquay Cowes and the Cowes Poole Cowes races, the very best of luck, fair winds and following seas on this 2021 60th Anniversary!
