Bembridge Harbour Authority has appointed MRMC as the Designated Person  under the Port Marine Safety code and the Guide to Good Practice on Port Marine Operations.

Fiona and Malcolm Thorpe of Bembridge Harbour Improvements Company Ltd said: “We were delighted to appoint Mark Robinson of MRMC as the Designated Person for Bembridge Harbour in June 2016. Mark carried out a comprehensive and thorough External Port Marine Safety Code Audit in January 2017, which provided us not only with the reassurance of full compliance with the Code, but also gave us recommendations on how to continue maintaining our safety provision to the highest standards.  We look forward to working with Mark over the coming months and years.”

Bembridge is a seasonally busy harbour located on the North East coast of the Isle of Wight. Its principal activities are the provision of moorings and facilities to pleasure vessels (mainly yachts); it also accommodates some resident commercial fishing vessels.

Moorings in the harbour range from fully serviced, walk ashore pontoon moorings to swing moorings and trots. At peak periods in the summer there can be about 750 vessels in the harbour. It is a popular destination harbour in the Solent for leisure sailors.

Mark Robinson said “MRMC are delighted to have been chosen as the new Designated Person for Bembridge. MRMC will independently audit the Authorities’ marine safety management system, associated procedures and risk register that manage safety on the water. This is the third port where MRMC has been contracted to act as the Designated Person and we have plans to grow our client base throughout the UK.”

The Harbour Authority is privately owned by Bembridge Harbour Improvements Company Ltd (BHIC).

MRMC has previous experience of providing independent Port Marine Safety Code ‘health checks’ to Harbour Authorities over the past 9 years, including the ports of Liverpool, The Clyde, Manchester Ship Canal, Portland, Dover, 3 UK Naval Bases as a commercial safety benchmarking exercise, Harwich, Shoreham, Heysham and Sheerness.
